The University of Ottawa Engineering Competition (uOEC) challenges students to innovate, design, and communicate while solving real-world problems. Students compete in nine categories that mirror the Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC). Winning teams advance to OEC, hosted at Carleton University in January 2027, and may go on to the Canadian Engineering Competition.

uOEC is open to University of Ottawa engineering students. Some categories may have year-level or program rules. Check the category list when full briefs are posted, or email us if you're unsure.
No. Competing at uOEC is free for eligible uOttawa engineering students.
Yes. Meals and snacks are provided over the competition weekend so you can stay focused on your challenge.

Email competition@uottawaess.ca as soon as you can. Swaps depend on space and category capacity, so earlier is better.
You can compete in at most one challenge per day, so one Saturday category and one Sunday category if you want both days. You cannot enter two challenges on the same day.
Yes. Volunteers help keep the weekend running. Email competition@uottawaess.ca or message @uottawa_essaeg if you'd like to help.
No. Categories range from design and programming to debate and communications. Bring curiosity and a willingness to learn. Briefs and judging criteria will be shared before the event.
Bring your student ID, a laptop if your category needs one, chargers, and anything else listed in your category brief. We'll share a fuller checklist closer to the weekend.
Judges include industry professionals, faculty, and alumni who evaluate technical work, communication, and teamwork.
Top teams can win recognition, prizes, and the chance to represent uOttawa at the Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC), with pathways toward the Canadian Engineering Competition.
