Code of Conduct
Expectations for everyone at uOEC: competitors, volunteers, judges, sponsors, and organizers.
The short version
uOEC should be a respectful, safe weekend for everyone. Be kind, compete honestly, look out for each other, and follow instructions from organizers and volunteers.
Who this covers
This code applies to competitors, volunteers, judges, sponsors, organizers, and anyone else at uOEC or in uOEC-related online spaces (email, social media, chat groups, and forms).
Expected behaviour
Treat everyone with respect regardless of background, identity, ability, or experience level. Include teammates, listen to feedback, credit others' work, and leave shared spaces better than you found them. Follow venue rules and safety instructions at all times.
Unacceptable behaviour
Harassment, hate speech, discrimination, intimidation, unwanted physical or verbal contact, stalking, doxxing, cheating, sabotage, theft, and disrupting the event are not allowed. Alcohol or substance use that endangers others, or anything illegal on campus, is also prohibited.
Competition integrity
Submit only work your team produced during the allowed competition window, except where a category brief explicitly permits external materials. Do not interfere with other teams' projects, materials, or presentations.
Reporting
If something feels wrong, tell a uOEC organizer or volunteer right away, or email competition@uottawaess.ca. Reports will be handled as discreetly as possible while we work to keep people safe.
Consequences
Organizers may warn, reassign, remove, or disqualify anyone who breaks this code, including from future uOEC events. Serious incidents may also be referred to the Engineering Students' Society or the University of Ottawa.
