How the uOttawa Engineering Competition (uOEC) handles information collected through this website and event registration.
Who we are
This website is operated by the uOttawa Engineering Competition (uOEC) committee of the Engineering Students' Society (ESS) at the University of Ottawa. For privacy questions, contact competition@uottawaess.ca.
What we collect
When you register, volunteer, or contact us, we may collect information such as your name, email address, student status, program or year of study, team details, and the category you select. If you email or message us, we also keep the content of that correspondence as needed to respond.
How we use it
We use this information to run uOEC: confirm registrations, communicate schedules and logistics, assign categories and rooms, coordinate volunteers and judges, and share results. Where relevant, we may share limited competitor details with partner competitions such as the Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC) or the Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) so winning teams can advance.
Cookies and analytics
This site is intended to work without advertising trackers. Your browser may still send standard technical data (such as IP address and user agent) to our hosting provider when you visit. If we add analytics later, we will update this page. A language preference cookie may be stored so the site remembers English or French.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We may share details with ESS organizers, judges, volunteers, and competition partners only as needed to deliver the event. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of participants.
Retention
We keep registration and contact records only as long as needed for the competition cycle, follow-up, and basic organizational records, then delete or anonymize them when they are no longer required.
Your choices
You can ask what information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Email competition@uottawaess.ca and we will respond as promptly as we can.
